Project goals:

• Design, develop and deploy a custom modern business management system to replace technologies (DOS – CA–Clipper).
• Take full advantage of the existing hardware.
• Minimize the purchase of software licenses.

Obstacles and Determining Factors:

• The solution had to coexist and be interoperable with legacy systems.
• User interface changes had to be kept to a minimum.
• The existing system was well integrated in the company’s culture, which enhanced users’ natural aversion to change. Therefore, in order to be embraced by the users, the new development had to meet very high standards of usability.

Our Solution:

Web System:

• Available through most major web browsers; does not require any installation.
• Minimum hardware requirements.

Ajax based system resulting in:

• Agile and intuitive user interface.
• Visually similar to the previous system.

Linux Client Machine:

• Hardware requirements are further minimized.
• No OS licenses required.

Transparent data export and import facilities.

Results:

• Retail system fully operational.
• Minimal effort in data migration and training in each branch.
• Automated user friendly interfaces with legacy modules.
• Clipper indices eliminated.
